Christmas or The Solemnity of the Nativity

Due to a hardware failure, largely related to dead batteries, my Christmas homily recording did not make it past the opening minute.

Still, what we celebrate on this holy day, is not just some warm feelings, it is not a cleverly contrived marketing scheme, or even a coming together of many religions chances to have a few days off from work. What we celebrate assumes that something is not right in the world. We must live in a fallen world, marred by brokenness and some failing. Somewhere, somehow, we must have messed up. This has to be the reality or else, why would we need a savior? Strange as it seems, if we are to seriously consider the beautiful reality of our savior coming to earth, then we must need one. By admitting that we are weak and fallen, in need of salvation, then and only then can we properly appreciate the impact of what a great gift it is to receive such a gift. This Christmas, remember that we sing of peace on earth and goodwill towards men, because God has visited his people, and he is here to save us.
Merry Christmas!
